What’s on and where to go

Framlingham may be best known for its stunning medieval castle and well-preserved market square, but there’s far more to this charming Suffolk town than first meets the eye. Throughout the year, Framlingham plays host to a vibrant calendar of markets, music events, cultural festivals, and community celebrations – all set against a backdrop of beautiful rolling countryside. Whether you’re browsing artisan stalls, attending a summer concert in the castle grounds, joining in the town’s quirky Sausage Festival, or simply heading out on foot to explore local walking trails, there’s always something to enjoy in and around Framlingham. Here’s our guide to the best events and things to do in and around Framlingham.

Every Tuesday morning (from around 6 am), Market Hill buzzes with local traders offering fresh produce, artisan breads, fish, cheese, flowers, plants, and plastic‑free coffee refills.

The larger Saturday market brings a variety of food, crafts, and seasonal treats to the square – a perfect way to start your weekend.

Our take: Simple but special. A morning here with a coffee and some local produce feels like the perfect Suffolk start to the day.

Framlingham Castle is not only a historical landmark, but also a lively hub for seasonal events:-

Daily activities, dress-up zones, and creative challenges for kids throughout the summer holidays (19 July – 31 August 2025).

A Bank Holiday weekend spectacular (23–25 August 2025) featuring dramatic sword-fighting, knightly displays, and medieval living history.

Spooky stories and eerie adventures for families during October half-term.

Our take: Few places make history feel this alive. The castle backdrop turns every event into something memorable, especially for families.

An annual highlight of the town calendar, GalaFest takes over Framlingham across the late May Bank Holiday weekend (24–26 May 2025). Expect live music, parades, food and drink stalls, classic cars, funfair rides, a duathlon, and a packed line-up of entertainment for all ages.

Our take: Relaxed festival vibes with plenty to keep everyone entertained. Perfect for families or anyone who loves local food and live music.

Framlingham is surrounded by a network of gentle countryside trails, perfect for a morning ramble or an afternoon stroll.

A serene, family-friendly route around the beautiful nature reserve at the base of the castle. Look out for swans, herons, and wildflowers.

A loop walk taking in the castle, town centre, college grounds and surrounding fields — offering beautiful views of the landscape that inspired Ed Sheeran.

A longer countryside trail linking Framlingham with the nearby village of Earl Soham, known for its award-winning pub and brewery.

Most routes are accessible year-round, and waymarked maps are available locally or via the Ordnance Survey app.

Our take: Framlingham walks are gentle but rewarding. You’re never far from history, water, or wide views — perfect for a half-day outing.

Every October, Framlingham puts its own spin on the traditional harvest celebration with the Sausage Festival — a family-friendly day of tastings, local producers, cooking demos, kids’ activities, and live music, all centred around the humble (and delicious) British banger.

While Framlingham is a destination in its own right, its location also makes it easy to dip into other Suffolk events:

World-class jazz acts and creative workshops across Ipswich venues.

An impressive parade of over 500 vintage and classic vehicles, starting in Ipswich and ending at the seafront in Felixstowe.

From festivals to food, castle views to countryside walks, Framlingham is made for exploring. Book your stay with The Suffolk Cottage Collection and put yourself at the heart of it all – local pubs, vibrant events, and rich heritage, all just moments from your door. Your Framlingham adventure starts here.

Our take: Framlingham’s own events are fantastic, but its position makes it easy to explore Suffolk’s wider festival and food scene too.
