PARKRUNs IN SUFFOLK

Discover the joy of running, walking and community on holiday

At The Suffolk Cottage Collection, we’re proud to welcome a new wave of guests looking not only to unwind, but to energise.  Whether you’re a seasoned runner chasing a PB, a walker enjoying the fresh air with your dog, or simply curious about the community spirit that fuels parkrun, East Suffolk has something special waiting for you every Saturday morning at 9am.

Parkrun is always free – a 5km community event where everyone is welcome.  You can run it, jog it, walk it, or even volunteer.  It’s not about beating others, it’s about enjoying yourself – and what better way to start your weekend when staying with us?

With a growing number of parkruns across Suffolk, many of which are minutes from our cottages, why not build your stay around a run, or let parkrun be the reason to try somewhere new?  Here’s a look at some of the most loved events in the area.

“There’s nothing quite like joining a parkrun on holiday – it feels like plugging straight into the heart of the local community.”

Lowestoft parkrun kicks off right on the promenade, tracing a flat and breezy course with sweeping views of the sea.  It’s a perfect run for coastal air, big skies, and that unmistakable buzz of running alongside fellow enthusiasts.  Ideal for a sunrise dip after your finish – and then coffee at one of the seafront cafés.

Unique in every sense, Sizewell parkrun offers a sandy, salty blend of beachside trail and rugged track. With views of the sea, wind turbines, and the iconic power station in the distance, it’s a striking route that delivers character and coastal charm in equal measure.

Set deep in the woods, this trail route winds its way through Rendlesham Forest – known for its mysterious UFO lore and serene beauty.  Gentle inclines and forest paths make it a favourite for nature lovers and families.  You might spot deer, and you’ll certainly leave feeling refreshed.

Fast, flat, and filled with good cheer, Felixstowe parkrun is another coastal gem.  The two-lap course runs right alongside the sea, ideal for pushing the pace or soaking up the sound of the waves.  It’s pram-friendly, dog-friendly, and right by the pier for a post-run treat.

A trail course with stunning views of Framlingham Castle, this is a true countryside run. Expect grassy tracks, open fields, and a warm local welcome.  Great for a more rustic running experience – and only minutes from our cottages in High Ash Farm and the surrounding villages.

Kesgrave is a well-established event with a big, supportive turnout.  Taking place on parkland trails just outside Ipswich, it’s especially welcoming to newcomers, families, and walkers.  You’ll find a lively local vibe and a genuine celebration of every finisher, no matter their pace.

With cottages close to all the parkruns above — and more in Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill, Clare Castle, and beyond – it’s easy to plan a getaway around your favourite Saturday start.  And if you’re touring the region, Parkrun tourism offers a unique way to experience Suffolk, one 5K at a time.

We believe holidays are for feeling good.  For many of our guests, joining a parkrun is a brilliant way to connect with the local community, enjoy the great outdoors, and discover a different corner of Suffolk in a healthy, uplifting way.

Pack your barcode, your trainers, and your curiosity.  Whether you’re running, walking, pushing a pram, or simply spectating, there’s a Parkrun near every Suffolk Cottage Collection property – and always a warm welcome waiting.
